Kariong – Kitchen Renovation

The brief

To design an affordable bachelor kitchen which maximised storage and allowed for intimate entertainment gatherings.

The space was quite large, but the existing kitchen was confined to only half the space which created a dead zone that was slightly too small for a dining or sitting area.

The adjacent living area housed a large lounge room but due to awkward wall positions had a large 12m2 dead zone behind the lounge closest to the kitchen. This area was only used as a walkthrough.

The solution

We removed the adjacent wall leading towards the living room. This allowed for the dining space to sit in the living area which previously with the wall in place was wasted space and only served as a walkway. This then created an opportunity to expand the existing kitchen to fill the larger space.

An island was installed with additional tall cabinetry behind creating a casual meals area, a more social kitchen space and much needed storage.

Squareform benchtops by Laminex were used to create the opulent look of stone without the associated cost. The contrasting colours of dark grey, white and timber created a bold statement that was beautifully complimented with the island pendant lights.
