If you would like to save money when purchasing a second hand car, your best bet would be to purchase it directly from the owner. This is largely due to the fact that you will probably get the car at a cheaper rate than if you went directly to a dealership. However, remember you are still purchasing a second hand car. Thus inevitably you will find a few faults that come along from normal wear and tear during the years. It is always advisable to go along with your mechanic if you are planning on purchasing a second hand car. However in the instance that you cannot do so, it does not mean that you cannot make an inspection on your own. Here are several things to watch out for when buying used cars for sale.1. The tail pipe: This will tend to tell you some valuable information about the condition of the car’s engine. If the tail pipe is looking oily black, this indicates that the engine is running on oil. If the tail pipe has some black powder at its end, this means that the fuel system of the car is running rich. A good second hand car will have a clean tail pipe that may have either some moisture or some white powder on it. This indicates an engine that is running smoothly.2. The battery cables: Check to see if the cables of the battery of the used cars for sale are corroded. If they are, this could indicate that the battery is not functioning properly. Typically when a battery is down and out then is quickly charged, it will leak some acid. This acid is what causes the cables to corrode. If the process is repeated over and over the battery will eventually stop functioning as it should be. 3. A fresh paint job: Some car owners may get a fresh paint job just to make the car look presentable. However, there are a few who may do this to camouflage the fact that the used cars for sale have been wrecked or damaged in a perverse way.
